Sonnet Thirty-seven

Your smile hangs like a shadow in the air Where you were standing a moment ago. Your energy is still lingering where Silence has captured your voice soft and low.

That shadow of your self is waiting there For you to return and fill it again. That lingering shade is so unaware You’re a warm body with a happy grin.

I stop my sewing and watch the doorway Expectancy ruling every heartbeat. Your ins and outs rule my every day. Only your presence makes my soul complete.

I cannot control my pounding heartbeat When I look up right before our lips meet.
