Annie Johnson-Oh, Restless Wind
Annie Johnson
Oh, Restless Wind
Oh, restless wind, your plaintive wail Around all the windows flying, Goes whispering through the trees, And the green leaves seem implying They know all my secret thoughts Lying dormant in the sacred leas Of endless summers stretched Beyond redemption’s pleas. The worn-out dreams, tightly bound By time’s flowing ribbons, are spent Fluttering like flocks of lost birds Flying against life’s headwinds. Oh, restless wind be silent now! Let lost dreams that were never meant Be whisked into the dust bin of space. Now my favored dream, at last, of all The remembered sweetness of form and face Through memory banks of time sweeping, Is here, entwined in the strong limbs of night With dreamy head resting on the rise and fall Of my soft breast and destiny’s keeping.
